Citizen Smith: Buon Natale (1980)
Season 4, Episode 8

There seemed to be a finality in the previous episode. Wolfie was on the run from Ronnie Lynch and left Tooting.

This Christmas special was a prequel to that episode.

Wolfie and Ken decide to go to Italy to see Shirley. First they need to raise money to fund the trip.

They have a raffle where the top prize is a Van Gogh and a Chippendale.

Unfortunately Chippendale was a rotten painter and Van Gogh could not make furniture to save his life. It was lucky for John Sullivan that Tommy Cooper did not sue for stealing his gag!

On the way to track down Shirley, both have misadventures including Wolfie's motorbike breaking down. The police mistaken them for drug smugglers.

It was a shame that the series went out on a whimper. There were a fair few good gags such as Wolfie ringing Charlie's new fangled pager.

Much of it was trying to communicate with the Italian characters. It seemed like lazy humour.

It was notable that this was another BBC Christmas special where the characters ended up going abroad.
