Review of Stolen Away

Stolen Away (2020)
7/10
A solid if somewhat melodramatic Spanish thriller
15 March 2022
Antonio Santos is a Spanish man who is arrested in Bogota carrying drugs through the airport... he isn't an ordinary drug mule though; he intended to be caught. His five year old adopted daughter, Soledad, was kidnapped thirteen years previously and he has been led to believe that a man who knows something about it is in jail in Bogota. When his ex-wife learns where he is she too flies to Bogota and, with the help of a lawyer starts looking into Soledad's adoption. We also see that Soledad is alive and well living with an actress and her drug lord husband; an incident leads to her questioning her past.

I found this to be an entertaining series; its premise may be a little far-fetched but it works to provide plenty of exciting and dangerous situations; in particular for Antonio in the tinder box environment of the jail. There is a good amount of action in every episode. The characters are fun in a slightly exaggerated way. The cast is solid making the characters believable. The locations are good, especially the jail... I have no idea what real Colombian jails are like but if they are anything like the one depicted here they are scary and dangerous places! Overall I'd recommend this to fans of tense dramas who don't mind melodramatic elements.

These comments are based on watching the series in Spanish with English subtitles.
