Yes Tornado! Is like a cheap version of the big budget Twister & yes i saw that film at the cinema & loved it but here with this made-for-t.v film, it's just as good if not better!!!
I actually prefer Tornado! Because of the great little cast of performers. We have the B-movie legend that is BRUCE CAMPBELL (The Evil Dead Trilogy, Congo, Maniac Cop) this guy is a god of the Horror & B-movie scene & a man i grew up watching & loving. Usually a supporting actor in much bigger films or the lead is smaller films & he's always great. Campell has a small role in the excellent jungle adventure CONGO (1995) which also starred Ernie Hudson. Yes, Ernie Hudson this guy is favourite of mine since the Ghostbusters films & his excellent lead role in Congo. I will watch anything with Hudson in & he's starred in many low-budget productions (Shark Attack, No Where To Land, Last Line Of Defence, Best Of The Best 4, The Substitute, Operation Delta Force & many more) but he's also starred in some greats like Congo, The Crow, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle to name a few. Here Hudson plays a scientist Dr. Branson (with a posh voice) who has created a machine to track & predict dangerous Tornados to give warnings. Hudson is great as Usual & works nicely as a buddy with Campbell's Country boy storm chaser Jake & they have a small crew of good friends & Campell's grandad played brilliantly by veteran actor L. Q Jones, a rugged ol' cowboy type who has seen the destruction & death caused by Tornados & Jones performance gives the film a serious weight. Also on this little team is the beautiful Shannon Sturges as Samantha Callen a lady assigned to pull the plug on Dr. Branson's Tornado project but she is all caught up in the exciting & dangerous action. Sturges is a great actress & so naturally nice on screen & has nice romantic chemistry with Campbell. The special effects are fine & looked very good for a little budget TV film. I loved it's pure 90's Nostalgic feel as it's a product of it's time in the 90's. A great little adventure flick.
