Warning: Spoilers
Peter Porteous has returned to Guernsey after serving his time in France.

It is not long before Peter is back in custody. He has been accused of murdering Teddy Lupus. He was the black marketeer forced to supply information to Oberleutnant Kluge.

Peter had confronted Lupus over the information he leaked to Kluge. It lead to a violent altercation.

Dr Martel is asked by his wife to move the time of death which would push Peter out of the frame. Dr Martel us unwilling to do this but seeks another way after a forensic post mortem.

Meanwhile Kluge is interested in the outcome of the post mortem. Lupus made a few enemies and they included German soldiers.

Dr Martel does manage to convince the German medical officer that Lupus did have a blow to the head. The cause of death was a heart attack.

There were also fibres in Lupus fingernails that corresponded to a German uniform.

Maybe a neat get out of jail card for Peter. At least Martel's slyness helped. Maybe Peter should had just gone home after he landed.
