21 years ago, a man named Jim Momoi sees a portal open as a baby in a peach-shaped capsule comes out. He decides to take him in, calling him Taro. In the present day, Taro is an employee of Shirokuma Express, living alone after his adoptive father vanishes. However, when oni begin attacking, he gains the power to transform into Don Momotaro, Now, he teams up with Haruka, Tsuyoshi, Shinichi, and. Tsubasa, four people who gain the power to become Oni Sister, Kiji Brother, Saru Brother, and Inu Brother, but suffer from misfortune (Tsubasa is a fugitive running from the police because he is wrongfully accused of a crime, and Haruka is a manga artist who won an award, but soon as she becomes Oni Sister, she is accused of plagarism, etc) to fight the evil Noto, aided by the mysterious Zankaizer Black.
The 46th entry in the long-running Super Sentai franchise, Avataro Sentai Donbrothers has the team based on characters from the Japanese folktale of Momotaro. It is also a Sentai series that has many firsts (Kiji Brother is the first male sentai hero to wear pink as his primary color, Inu Brother is the first to shrink to a smaller size when transformed, as well as being CGI animated alongide Kiji Brother, etc). The suits are well done, capturing the motif well.
However, one of the downsides of this series is how much the series recycles from past Sentai shows. One of the main gimmicks of this series is the Avataro Gears, which allows them to transform into past Sentai hero forms. Immediatly, this is like the Ranger Keys in Gokaiger and the Rider Cards in Kamen Rider Decade, both which do the same thing. Also, their transformation devices are blasters, which is similar to the ones in Kyoruger. While it is nice to see this again, it seems off for Toei to do this, especially after the last series Zenkaizer, which was the anniversary series.
However, it is still a good show. The team not knowing each other's identities is a good change from past teams, and the stories, monsters, and mecha are amazing.
