La fea más bella (2006–2007)
1/10
Worst version of "Yo soy Betty, La Fea"
23 June 2022
I watched the original novel and it was marvelous, with high doses of black comedy, fine humour, sarcastic jokes and double meaning phrases, with a lot of emotional and dramatic scenes (it's incredible how to make a board of directors meeting really catchy and fulfilled of emotions to the spectator), sophisticated and complex characters with a lot of nuances between protagonism and antagonism, participation of many Colombian and latin american models and artists, and, additionally, if you lived in Colombia during the 90s, you see a lot of positive and negative aspects of Colombian office culture of this specific decade (in dress codes, discrimination, clasism, slang language across different social classes and/or professions, comic situations, envy, work exploitation, sidekicking, working pressure, corruption, happiness, deception, madness, responsability, ehtics and ability to correct mistakes among others) that are described in a high detail.

When I saw "La fea mas bella" I got totally disappointed. The comedy is totally flat and simple, too overacted, no sarcasm exists in this version, the main character (Letty) is totally ridiculous, flat and many times she looks so dumb (different than Betty, that is very smart but also naive sometimes, with initially low self esteem but with a big sense of autocritic and self-mockery, that evolves into a better, secure and brave person), and the other characters are not well developed (without grace and totally ridiculous).
