This is one of the funniest comedy movies I have watched for a long time now. Robert De Niro is genuinely funny, and Tommy Lee Jones works magic conveying hilariousness, sadness, old-school manliness, and nostalgia, all at the same time. Morgan Freeman is almost sinister, but in a peculiarly ridiculous way, which is such a great match for the tone of this film. There are a lot of very funny details (the horse, the "color-craving" cast member, etc.), which will keep you entertained throughout the movie.
Of course, the script could have been better, and the ending was a little rushed, and perhaps some of us (me including) would want to see a closure for the love line, but overall I enjoyed "The Comeback Trail" a lot. As, I'm sure, will anyone who loves a good light comedy.
