After Gomer gives money to a panhandler who asked for a quarter for a bowl of soup, Gomer is mocked by Sgt. Hacker and his corporal for being too kind and trusting. So they decide to play a little joke on him by setting him up with a burlesque dancer, telling him that she is from out of town and a school teacher. The plan was to humiliate Gomer by luring him to her real place of employment, so he can find out what she really does for a living. She does not want to play along at first, but agrees if they'll pay her fifty bucks.
So Gomer, being the nice guy that he is, agrees to take the woman, whose name is Lila, out. He takes out out to do some wholesome activities, and at first, she is bored. However, Lila soon finds herself charmed by Gomer, as he, as usual, acts like a gentleman and treats her with respect. Given what she does for a living, I guess a lot of guys treat her like trash. Hacker and his buddy certainly did in using her as they did.
So when Gomer is lured to the burlesque joint, he is stunned to learn the truth about Lila, yet he chooses to accept her for who she is. Hacker pays her the promised $50, but she gives it back She found that she truly enjoyed her time with Gomer, and did not want to be part of the stupid joke any longer.
I was a little surprised that they would show Gomer dating another woman at this point in the series, because I thought he was going steady with Lou-Ann Poovie. She was not in this episode. Neither was Sgt. Carter, which was odd. I think this might be the only episode that he wasn't in.
This episode was not as big on the laughs as others, but high on the sweetness scale, so I give it an 8.
