Weird and not engaging
13 August 2022
I have not read the novel, but despite very well filmed this is not a good adaptation to cinema. Pace is too sluggish, the idea of using more a monotonic narration instead of showing things happening is also bad, and the film takes too long time to go anywhere (being tepid even after serial killing rises!). Weird film. Portraying conservative traditional society and its hypocrisies is nice, and the dissonant music score works interestingly, but the script is not engaging. By the way, too sad that Leila Diniz died over Indian sky while traveling back towards Brazil after promoting the movie in Australia.
