This was my "official" introduction to Babar. I never watched the original cartoon (I was aware of its existence, but in my country it was aired way too early in the morning, so I couldn't watch it)
This movie is some sort of "soft-reboot" of the franchise, so there is no need for any viewer to previously having seen the series.
And I enjoyed this movie immensely. So wholesome and earnest, a total rarity from modern media. This wasn't ashamed of being a movie for kids, needing to add "irony" or forced cultural references.
It was beautifully sincere. Cute.
The type of family film Hollywood is completely unable to make anymore.
In a better world, this would be regarded as a classic of animation.
