I'm happy to see Dembe being a more prominent part of the cast this season, and this episode really strengthens his character by providing an insight in his past. It reveals his connection to Reddington nicely, and explains his ongoing loyalty. It also shows a side of Reddington that does not surface that often - one in which you can see he is not all bad.
I'm always glad to see a series that keeps developing their characters even after they are originally defined in the first episode or season, and this episode is a nice example of how to do that. It enhanced the emotional moments from Anslo Garrick even further, too.
Plus, this was scary as hell - that was the creepiest fireside gathering I've seen in a while.
