Review of Blades

Blades (1988)
3/10
About as much of a bore as the game itself

Not a whole lot to say about this one. Really the only thing it can hang is hat on is the fact it directly parodies Jaws. If you're expecting anything Caddyshack-esque with the country club setting, run far away! Blades was the EXACT OPPOSITE of Caddyshack. Let's begin with our two stars. I can't imagine a less charismatic duo to star in a movie, low budget or not. Man, they suck the energy out of every scene they're in (and that's most of the movie).

Things get real heavy-handed (as well as a little more interesting) in terms of aping another movie when they go on the hunt for the killer lawnmower. You got your Quint, your extended Quint tale, and your Quint death. Oh yeah, the other two dullards are along for the ride (neither of them Richard Dreyfuss). The parallels keep coming at you, right until the end.

Zero nudity, hell, zero foxy ladies, I don't think anyone even swore, and the violence is limited to two lawnmower leg attacks. This is initially presented as a murder mystery, as they unveil various wacky characters, but I think every review here mentions a possessed lawnmower. Oh well. Unless you're some hardcore fan of parodies (if there is such a thing), this is an easy pass.
