Neo Tokyo (1987)
8/10
A short special of 3 stories.

Warning: Spoilers
As this feels very short for a film I will call it an OVA/Special which consist of 3 different stories. Labyrinth Labyrinthos is about a little girl called Saichi who looks like she and her mother are living in a in a poor condition. She discovers a doorway through a clock which takes her to a supernatural world and some circus. Running Man is about Zach Hugh a racer who is a champion of a popular deadly racing, where racers get themselves or each other killed. A journalist called Bob Stone witness this whole. Construction cancellation orders is about a construction worker called Tsutomu Sugioka who has orders to shut down the robotic construction workers who are building some kind of new facility for a government. As the robots are programmed to finish the work no matter what they refuse to shut down. Which cause a cat and mouse game to begin between the worker and the robots.

Between all three segments I don't particularly have a favourite as a I feel all three of them were good and probably fun to watch around Halloween time since they all seem to have that horror theme in them.

Characters: as they were only 3 twelve minutes shorts there wasn't exactly much development behind them. I would have been interested in learning are Sachi and her mother that her mom can't afford clothes for daughters that would fit her size better (judging by how she was literally in a generic red and white strip T-shirt and some over sized brown pants) also what happened to her dad? How did the racers get their hands on dangerous equipment? Towards the end how come there was no tribute to Zack if some many people liked him? Who is Tsutomu? And why did they decide to use robots?

The animation for an 80's style was excellent as was the art style and music.

The dub I will admit for its time was surprisingly good Cheryl Chase aka Angelia pickles from Rugrats sounds very adorable as Saichi, both Michael McConnohie and the brother of the late Miguel Ferrer, Rafale Ferrer nailed the narrator like tone for Bob Stone and finally the late legend himself Robert Axelrod did an excellent job as the short tempered Tsutomu.

If you enjoy short films that consist of shorts of different stories like I do. You may enjoy this.
