Mama's Affair (2022)
5/10
The affair of mother.

Warning: Spoilers
After being lucky to see a thrilling run of obscure Taiwan Wuxia Action titles on the big screen at the HOME cinema, I was pleased to spot that the Odeon cinema in Birmingham was screening a new film from Hong Kong, leading to me witnessing the end of the affair.

View on the film:

Talking directly to the camera about the struggle of finding a balance between love, work and family, Hard Boiled (1992-also reviewed) lead actress Teresa Mo gives a sparkling performance as Mei-Fung, whose return to the entertainment management industry is given a comedic snap by Mo, which is cracked by a nicely understated romantic side, as Mo expresses Mei-Fung finding a new lust for life.

Turning from major HK-Pop stars into big screen stars, Keung To and Jer Lau give turns which slide between the ill-fitting Melodramatic to the frozen, not helped by the screenplay from writer/director Kearen Pang, fizzling out after giving Mei-Fung a welcomed quirky introduction, to leave her surrounded by a flat family Drama, as mama leaves for an affair.
