Even Young and Fairbanks Jr Can't Save This Turkey - Loose Ankles
6 October 2022
Loretta Young and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Were two extraordinary talents of 1930s films. However, in this turkey, their combined talents are wasted due to a very lame script and poor plot development. The film starts well, but eventually grinds to a halt less than halfway through the film with the introduction of Young's two middle-aged aunts and the two male hookers they have hired to escort them about town. The cafe scenes are arduously long and unfunny, and the film finally goes into a sort of numbness that was probably not intended. Young and Fairbanks should have been on the screen much more and the aunt gag deleted. But the writers made the wrong choice, and the film suffers.
