Don (1978)
8/10
You've either seen Avengers: Endgame/Spider-Man: No Way Home in a theatre full of teenage marvel geeks or you've seen Don in a theatre full of middle-aged Bachchan fans

I will never get over this film, now that I've seen it in a theatre packed with Bachchan's fans. Truly an exhilarating experience.

The film has a fantastic story, like truly amazing. It follows the tale of a gangster whose name is Don and how his supposed death affects the criminal underworld and the lives of several people. But, the main attraction of the film is not it's story, rather it's the characters and songs.

Amitabh Bachchan was born to play Don, that's it. No offence to Shahrukh Khan whose portrayal I also admire, is really just a copy-paste version of this portrayal. Also, I can't even imagine that at some point of time, Dev Anand, Dharmendra and Jeetendra were involved in this project and it was after these people left, Amitabh got the role. He plays both Don and Vijay with flying colours. Zeenat Aman plays the Junglee Billi (Wild Cat) for whom I just straight up fell for throughout the film. Pran is just a gem who needs to be locked in a gold vault and stored for eternity, his character is the heart and soul of this film.

The songs are definitely something to look out for. They are provided by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar and all of them go so hard it takes the vibe to a whole new level. People were getting up from their seats and dancing together when Main Hoon Don and Khaike Paan Baneras wala played.

Also, feels proud to know that Black Eyed Peas sampled their song "Don't Phunk With Me" from "Yeh Mera Dil Yaar Ka Deewana".

One thing that seriously bugged me and got on my nerves after sometime was the editing. It's bad, like really bad. Several scenes end so abruptly that I completely lost the mood and tension the previous scene was trying to establish. I really wanted to give 5 stars but the editing is really awful, but given the time this film was released, it can be excused and doesn't really ruin the movie for you.

Thanks to PVR once again for giving me the opportunity to watch this in theatres.
