The Artist (I) (2011)

Great performances but slightly boring story
22 October 2022
Worth watching for the performances and for the clear love and respect for silent films. Jean Dujardin was mesmerizing...conveying such a big personality with only his body language, facial expressions, and those twinkling eyes. Same for Berenice Bejo - she defied all my expectations for that type of character - she was playful, funny, compassionate, etc. I normally don't enjoy seeing animals being forced to perform in film and TV but I have to say the little dog was very cute and had very nice chemistry with George Valentin. It was fun to see James Cromwell and John Goodman in supporting roles completely different from what I've seen them play in the past. The story was slightly boring but I can forgive it because the performances were so good and the format was something different. Overall this was a fun, feel-good movie and I can completely understand why it won all those awards and accolades.
