As the abductor was witnessed standing against the pillar, one leg bent "like a stork" ... an image we witness near end of the movie. Whereas the Stork traditionally brings children into this world, Sean Harris's evil smoking Stork snatches them out of it - an interesting and creepy reverse metaphor for an eerie and tense movie.
Also interesting was the contrasting imagery of the bearded and long haired criminals versus the clean shaven clean cut cops.
Acting wise I thought Joel Edgerton had the edge on Sean Harris in this, however, Harris took the edge on Edgerton in The Green Knight, and was brilliant as King Arthur in that movie.
The Stranger could have been called The Stork!
