In yet another triumph for the Warner crew . . .
30 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . who had recently edged out television hacks Joe and Bill for control of their Tom & Jerry theatrical franchise, the erstwhile Warner stalwarts pull off the sort of musical triumph that the more or less tone deaf Groaning Fat Cat klutzes never could do--UNLESS they had stolen the negative for a Warner masterpiece such as RHAPSODY RABBIT, assigned their doodlers to dash off a cheap imitation, and then rigged the voting system to imply that Warner had the idea second! During THE CAT ABOVE AND THE MOUSE BELOW, Mel B-l-a-n-c, billed under a simian pseudonym, seldom was in better voice. Mel's pipes were no surprise, of course, to viewers familiar with his Tours d-e Force in those unforgettable Bugs Bunny/Elmer F-u-d-d Warner films, WHAT'S OPERA, DOC?--as well as RABBIT OF SEVILLE, the latter written and directed by the same guys pulling off THE CAT ABOVE AND THE MOUSE BELOW.
