More of the same

Lebanese soap operas are seldom interesting as they tend to go on forever, repetitive to the point of tediousness. This one is no exception to that rule. This series deals with a common theme that has been used before by the same production group, drug trafficking. It makes viewers wonder if that's a major pastime in that country. The production methods are very westernized and slick. The story however lacks much substance and is very similar to a previous soap that dealt with the same theme. The sets used even appear to be the same garishly decorated homes and country villas. Like all Middle-Eastern soaps, this is heavy on the family dynamics and romance fantasies. There is a lot of crying and expressions of undying love and loyalty for all family. The chain smoking lead actor single-handedly supports the tobacco industry, and the lead actress plays a kind of super-heroine, with over-plumped lips from collagen, who can overcome any challenge. If you are into long drawn out soap operas, then this would be a good match. It plays like a Latin-American Telenovela, but one that's 30 episodes long!
