Review of V/H/S/99

V/H/S/99 (2022)
1/10
Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
There's a quote by Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle that applies to this movie: "I expected nothing and I was still disappointed." I went in not expecting much, and I still hated this movie. The problem is that all of the segments had terrible execution. There was a brief moment when I was starting to feel a bit of terror when a young girl is buried alive in a coffin and water starts pouring in. Then a cheap jump scare happens with an actor in subpar makeup and it completely ruined any tension or terror. It's like what a ten year old would think is scary. The last segment wasn't too horrible, but the Hell set looked like something out of a junior high play. I'll give a half star for that segment and another half star for Ozzy's Dungeon, which would have made a decent short film in the hands of a competent writer. Maybe have the rest of the family obsessed with revenge while the daughter just wants to move on with her life. But, the whole movie it seems like it's the daughter who is killing the people involved with her injury. A little bait and switch to keep the viewer guessing.

Gawker and the one with the zombie riot grrl band were bland and forgettable. The cgi snake hair was particularly atrocious.

The other V/H/S films all had a least one good or at least noteworthy segment. All of the segments in this installment were bland and predictable, insultingly bad, or wasted potential.
