Warning: Spoilers
Hawkeye and Charles bond over Hawkeye's concern for his dad . He's going through an operation and hadn't told Hawkeye. Hawkeye spends most of the episode trying to get a call through. Charles is the only one privy to what Hawkeye is going through. As a doctor who understands the medical side but also a supportive friend. It sounds unlikely but Charles has shown steady growth in this way . Indeed you can never imagine Frank Burns showing compassion or being a rock for another person to confide in. Charles also shares with Hawkeye that while his own father is a good man and wants the best for him they don't have the easy communication and closeness Hawkeye had with his dad . Charles even makes that distinction Charles has a father while Hawkeye has a dad .

The humor comes from the Potter looks to finally win one against the Marines. This time it's bowling. Potter is willing to use anyone but Margaret. In the meantime BJ and Charles neutralize the Marine's best bowler and when Hawkeye's call comes through he has to drop out of the competition. Potter let's Margaret in and she throws the winning strike!

Later as they are all celebrating in the officers club Hawkeye and Charles have a toast as Charles said to their fathers and their sons as Hawkeye said. I definitely appreciate these later episodes more and more. The depth is well layered.
