Season 4 - Writers & characters have learned nothing
10 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
You would think that after four seasons the show would have matured a bit, that the writers and the characters would have learned something, but no. The writers make the same mistakes, recycle the same things, and alas, so do the characters.

Characters, after disastrous results of running off on their own, still want to...run off on their own. Witness S4E03 as Superboy wants to go after the witch on his own after getting beat by her. We also have Gar just running off into the woods, leaving a newbie team member alone, after he hears something in S4E02. You can argue whatever you want, but immersion is broken whenever I see this type of nonsense.

Here's something else from S4E03 that didn't make sense. Dick and Kory go to the prison to meet with a prisoner. They not only bring the prisoner out of the prison, but they bring them to the actual front gates - for a meeting. Dick even asks if they've ever let this person out of their cell before, and the guard replies that they haven't, right before the prisoner escapes. This entire nonsensical scene boils down to a lazy writer - we need an excuse to get this person outside so they can escape, so we'll just have them take the prisoner outside for this meeting. Sure, checks out, even if in all other episodes Dick has met prisoners INSIDE prisons.

Outside of some story elements carrying over from the previous seasons, no one learns anything important apparently - writers and characters both. There are numerous other examples of this on top of all the bad exposition that also takes place. It feels like the writer isn't sure who his audience is, pre-teens, young adults, adults, etc., so the writing is all over the place.

Every season, every episode, I keep waiting for this series to get better and every season, every episode I keep being disappointed. You wonder why I continue to watch then - consider the train wreck analogy - I'll leave it at that.
