Abominable (2019)

Another excellent Animated film

Abominable was a really sweet movie.

I didn't know much about it going in so I was surprised to see that the setting was China and the characters and even their voice actors were Chinese. I really appreciated the animation, particularly as the characters traveled to beautifully animated real-world locations. Most impressive and emotional was the Leshan Buddha.

I liked the main characters, Yi --- a very hard-working girl who is secretly saving up money so she can go traveling--- and Everest, an adorable Yeti. As for the side characters I wasn't a fan of Peng but I did like Jin and his growth over the course of the movie.

Another unique element of this movie is the music. Yi plays the violin and she plays it beautifully. I am a big fan of the instrument and I like the eastern influence on the soundtrack. I was impressed when I read another review that said the violin sequences were animated realistically as well.

I am always on board with the idea that all animals, whether they are mythical creatures like the Yeti or real world animals, deserve to live in peace and free from humans. So the story resonated with me. I look forward to watching it again.
