Review of Black Sands

Black Sands (2021– )
6/10
The scenery alone accounts for this many stars

Warning: Spoilers
Such a promising start but after the 4-5th episodes, things got tedious and bogged down and the chaos of the main protagonists' lives became a bad soap opera. Not much professionalism or actual police work is apparent here, and I think the pace became more glacial than just slow. I usually enjoy Scandinavian series, such as The Killing, Millenium (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Wallander (original Swedish), and a few more, but this one just lacked any really likeable characters. A couple of the minor roles were more 'realistic', but the main characters and their dysfunctional behaviours just didn't appeal to me. The focus on multiple sex scenes became very important after a while and really didn't contribute to anything to move things along or make it more interesting. The 'surprise' revelation of the real killer, by showing a wig and old uniform, really was beyond silly. Very Hitchcock.

It's ok if you need to fill up some mindless time, but don't expect high drama or tension-filled intelligent dialogue, despite a few rare funny lines and a couple of believable conversations. The overall impact is: let's get this over with.
