Armageddon 1999 Thoughts

Armageddon 1999 was the 1st ever Armageddon PPV event produced by the WWF. It took place December 12, 1999 at the National Car Rental Center in Sunrise (A suburb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Attendence was at 17,054 with a buyrate at 371,000. Event was notable for the heel turn of Stephanie McMahon that aligned her with her (then-kayfabe) husband, Triple H.

The Good - Only good match of the show I look at was Kane vs. X-Pac. I guess it was the thing that finally added some steam to the show after a slow start. The match itself wasn't terrific but it finally gave something worth looking at. It's not that much of a Memorable cage match TBH.

The Meh - Chris Jericho vs. Chyna was surprisingly okay. Jericho kind of messed up a few of times and looked awkward during spots as you could tell he was trying to pull back a bit from hurting Chyna. Jericho didn't get much good action in the ring until months later after this night. Opening battle royal was also pretty decent. The tag divison was getting more and more stacked but the WWF finally showed that Division off the very next month. Also had a tag team championship match that was going smooth but had a lousy ending.

The Bad - Majority of the card was bad or straight up awful. The main event was a bit of a snooze with both McMahon and HHH looking like walking drug addicts for 30-Minutes with not anything exciting happening. Match being 30 minutes just to set up and angle was very bad booking. The WWF title match was also a dud and Big Show being WWF Champion at this time was a huge mistake. The crowd even chanted boring with it only being 3 minutes. The wrestling for this show was just lackluster or all around bad. It was sad none of the title matches led to any historic moments.

Overall - Crowd through out this night seemed to be more obsessed with being on TV than the matches. I can't blame them tonight as not much was going on for 2/3rds of this show. 99 was at the time a great year financially but PPV quality was still a mess and this year didn't ended on a good note.

Score - 3 out of 10: Bad
