Too Much Talky Not Enough Killing
2 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, having only seen the first 2 Playing With Dolls films (I'm presuming this is the 5th one) & to be fair like them, it has a great poster art on the front. The film however, another matter...

The film sees a group of masked murdering cannibals going about brutally massacre unsuspecting people. When a woman & her sister in law survive one of the attacks they head off with a local lawman to find a gunfighter for vengeance, but find the journey far more dangerous than first thought.

I found the film to be mostly boring. Sorry, not sorry, but if the film was going to be some half baked soap opera then I wouldn't have bothered. When we do see some action it's ok, but not great or remotely imaginative. The effects sounds wise are cheap & badly mixed.

The blood effects themselves aren't too bad to I guess as with the scenery & clothing worn by the characters which was legit & convincing & didn't feel or look cheap.

The pacing is poor for a 75 minute (1hr 15mins) feature, & the films plot was thin & lacked weight. I did smell some modern day talk being inserted into this period piece, but I don't know I'd like hope it wasn't what I thought it was...

Overall, it's a pretty bad entry into this franchise & one which is pretty forgettable & features way too much talk talk nonsense & little horror & action. I will give props to the makers for the legit convincing western scenery & authenticity, it did feel western like & not cheap, so there's that. But plot wise & action wise & even horror wise, this film fails on those aspects.

2/10.
