Warning: Spoilers
I love this series, but this season has some really problematic storyline choices. Also, the resolution of some of the storylines is pretty perfunctory.

The mother of the victim is bizarrely horrible and exists only to hinder the investigation. She is allowed to almost kill someone and herself without charges being brought because she is distraught and because her only purpose is to make the story more difficult to resolve.

Perez has a love interest but we aren't given much of a clue as to why they would be attracted. Also, Perez is not the guy to get involved with a married woman. I don't see him vaulting from grieving widower saint to homewrecker without some bridging storyline.

At the end, there is a thread with a businessman from Glasgow that seems directly connected to the crime at hand but it just fizzles out other than a warning to Duncan. Maybe this storyline will continue in Season 6 (or did, as I haven't binged that one yet). Also, both Tosh and Sandy get a roughly 90 second resolution to their storylines, which is somewhat unfulfilling.

I like all the main characters. I just feel like the plotting of this season was pretty slapdash and exists only to fill out the six episodes.
