I think a lot of viewers would not have watched this had we known the real agenda with the movie, it wasn't about an older couple, they were the side story.
95% of all Hallmark movies have no kisses until the very last minute in most cases, it's become the standard for their movies, so having the young female couple kiss 3 times is kind of a slap in the face for all the other couples the movies are about.
As others have mentioned, embarrassing attitudes by all involved, it's the 60's mindset of quitting the real world to travel for a year with your parents' money or somehow afford a rich lake house with your ex's money.
