The pilot episode was amazing. It was mysterious, with great acting and an intriguing plot. Unfortunately for them, another show with young people in Los Angeles, was launched at the same time. And it wasn't trying to be another Twin Peaks either. The tone was lighter and the stories were more « fun ». 2000 Malibu Road, was clearly too ambitious for TV, and NBC (!?) The slow build up was probably what discouraged the viewership, too. Even I was, and found that the focus on that crazy character, played by Tuesday Knight, was ill advised. Though the show clearly worked with an ensemble cast, it was like she suddenly became its main character. And nothing ever happened, without her meddling. They tried to give closure to the main arcs, mainly regarding the true heroine of the story, Jade. But it was clear that after the pilot episode, nobody knew how to carry this further. And just embroidered until the jaw dropping finale...
