Beautiful popcorn flick
15 February 2023
Definitely a movie I consume at least once a year. A classic and proper popcorn movie: just press play, go with the flow and be moved.

As adaptations go, it's almost word for word. Not so much an interpretation, rather a reflection... Think Cormac McCarthy's/ Coen brothers No Country for old Men. Pedants beware.

All actors are where they should be, with Max Von Sydow perhaps narrowly defeating Ethan Hawke in stealing the show. But even the bit parts are expertly played.

The music is another highlight. Given the nature of the story, with lots of timeline shifts, the music aids you in shifting focus.

Ultimately it's a hard movie to watch in a cynical mood. It calls upon a belief in people doing the right thing.

But let this movie in, and I guarantee the happiest tear will sting your eyes... And you'll love it.
