Win It All (2017)
9/10
Top notch indie

I initially skipped this movie because it's listed as a RomCom, but came back to it eventually and glad i did. If you're a fan of indie movies, you'll love this one.

It features a great cast, with genuine, relatable characters. Many are played by recognizable top-notch character actors and a really nice touch is the use real poker players with speaking parts in some key scenes.

Although it uses a familiar theme of a hopeless gambling degenerate digging himself a deep hole, the way it proceeds is fresh, genuine and when it's funny - it's very, very funny!

Jake Johnson is the perfect anti-Hollywood leading man. His Eddie character tries hard to be smooth but can't quite pull it off, which is what makes him relatable. When he hooks up with Eva, they make a good-looking couple, but still far from the Ken & Barbie-types that are the usual we've come to expect.

Some of what transpires is fairly predictable, but there are enough interesting twists that it doesn't feel at all formulaic. It's topped off, I thought, by an interesting and unique circumstance by which the main character is saved from himself.

I'd highly recommend this one.
