Ako si Ninoy (2023)
1/10
A Waste of Money and 2 Hours of your Life

It looked like a random guy with a phone passed by this mediocre stage play, took video clips, and passed it off as a movie. The director was confused between film and theater because too many scenes used green screens.

Ako Si Ninoy has failed to deliver a meaningful message to the audience. Although the movie keeps saying that Ninoy is a hero, it does not show it, leaving the viewers confused about why he is a hero. The film did not dramatize Ninoy's alleged brilliance, intelligence, pivotal speeches, and the things he did with the people that made him popular. Instead, it relied on narrations and scenes that had no impact. Using Buwan was anachronistic and jarring, and JK Labaho as Ninoy crying-singing to a light bulb was cringe-worthy. The movie's attempt to show how Ninoy returned home was disappointing, as the dialogue made him appear narcissistic and megalomaniacal. The characterization of Ninoy that the viewers will take home is that he is an elitist. The film juxtaposed Ninoy from a family of hacienderos and privilege with the story of a poor family. The movie had no presentation of Ferdinand Marcos Sr, who is the hero's foil, and therefore, it did not deliver any message. The film's biggest problem is that it does not have a villain, which is necessary to understand why Ninoy is a hero. In conclusion, Ako Si Ninoy is not a Ninoy movie because it failed to show the Ninoy that people know from watching historical clips and reading historical books. Therefore, it is not recommended for people who want to learn about Ninoy Aquino's life. Save your money and time. Avoid watching this movie at all costs.
