I've been binge-watching girl loves girl movies and shows for several months now. At first I didn't understand why, I'm a straight female with a terrific boyfriend. What is my problem, right?
Then, I finally figured it out. Girl making out with girl love scenes are the most passionate lovemaking scenes imaginable. Forget the dirty stuff ... just the longing glances and the loving embraces and the passionate kissing. You'd be hard-pressed to find this kind of passion in normal boy/girl scenes.
Soooo, when done correctly, you're not gonna get much more bang for your buck than a well-done girl/girl movie, especially when they incorporate a coming of age aspect to it, since that adds innocence and awareness to the mix.
You Can Live Forever has presented this masterfully. Great, pretty leads, good acting, great story, realistic emotions and characterizations. The directing is very good, for the most part, but there is one scene that is especially outstanding when they are all in the "final" truth meeting, where you feel you are actually in the audience and witnessing the main character's trepidation first hand.
