This was quite a story, with (typical of Dickens) a lot of characters, plot twists and turns, and very entertaining.

It's also poignant, as well as frustrating, watching Paul Dombey (Julian Glover) give all his time and attention to his namesake (Barnaby Buik), completely ignoring his devoted daughter. Even after his son's death, Florence (Lysette Anthony, who plays the part well) is cast aside with indifference, her only "crime" having been born female.

It'll take a lot of time before he sees the error of his ways, meanwhile making a foolish second marriage to a much younger woman, widow Edith Granger (Sharon Maughan), him for a son, her for money, neither getting what they wanted and both miserable.

At least Florence finds true love with Walter (Max Gold), but of course, the road doesn't run smoothly.

A good series, worth watching.
