7/10
Missing some crucial things
1 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Rarely have I ever wished for a serious, multi-part documentary to be even longer and MORE thorough (and never one from Netflix; if I hear the name "Joe Exotic" one more time, I'll stuff cotton in my ears and cancel Netflix service!). But despite some interesting never-before-seen footage of the 51-day siege of the Waco, Texas, Branch Davidians compound, there's little or no new information presented about the violent, controversial response of the multiple federal agencies involved in the siege (tragically, with many children still inside) or the totally bonkers set of religious cultists and their huge cache of military-grade weaponry. (Speaking of which, I love one negative review proclaiming that "no such thing as an illegal gun exists"; automatic machine guns, anti-tank/anti-aircraft artillery, is all just clearly covered in that 2nd Amendment, according to-more than one-IMdB reviewer!) Questions like "who fired on whom first?" and "who set those multiple fires" have never been definitively (or even adequately) answered, and you won't find them addressed here either (but aerial footage does show three distinct locales igniting almost simultaneously near the end). As for trying to understand the insane draw of cult behavior, I was nothing but confused to hear a (now middle-aged) woman who bore one of the Koresh offspring say that he "had been doing *them* a favor" by having (unprotected) sex with many already married and/or then-underaged females, "getting them closer to God" (him)! But it does provide a clue as to why Jesus hasn't yet returned: it'd be more like the "Second Coming" of Elvis or a special appearance by Justin Bieber. Can't blame our Lord and Savior from begging off all that noise! Ugh! For the new audio/video, I rate this 7/10, but I'd also suggest alternatives for key additional information and perspectives.
