I watched this movie mainly because i felt like watching a Disney Channel movie was something I owed to my inner t(w)een. I will have to say I was surprised by this one. It was for more mature audiences than your typical DC watchers (mostly because of the language but wardrobe in some parts was a little more "adult" than I predicted as well). I was also surprised that judging by the movie's title, you'd roll your eyes and think "Great, another dumb teen movie about fake dating or blah blah..." but what ended up happening was unexpected, I'll have to say. The '80s references, between the "promposals" and nostalgic songs, were pretty cute. I was a '90s kid so I don't know how much of a big deal asking someone to prom is nowadays (because whatever happened to doing so simply and sincerely?) This may have been a better fit for Disney+ entirely but since I no longer have access to the streaming service, I'm glad it premiered on cable.
