In a zombie horror genre already teeming with films from the truly classic to absolute dribble, "Infected" rides in the middle of the pack. Is it great? No. Is it awful (as some reviews and ratings contend)? No. Now the $64 question, is it worth watching? Yes, if you like zombies and a bit of intrigue. The basic ingredients are blended well into a cogent and interesting plot. In the manner of World War Z, the infected in this movie are infected with a virus that causes them to rage with violence, attacking the uninfected and basically beating (rather than eating) them to death. There is a mysterious stranger, saved by a small group of survivors, whose identity is slowly reveled over the length of the movie. There are interesting group dynamics within the clutch of survivors including suspicion, anger, hatred, grief, and murderous intent. There are soldiers, British military, curiously on a lethal hunt for the uninfected rather than the zombies. All in all "Infected" is entertaining and worth a one-off viewing.
