The Sitter: Check on the kids!
14 April 2023
Plot

A babysitter is menaced by mysterious and frightening phone calls.

Cast

Directed and written by Fred Walton who would later go on to do the full length version of the tale (When a Stranger Calls) in 1979 and the questionable 2006 remake.

Verdict

The Sitter focuses on that classic urban legend of the babysitter receiving scary calls, it's what would later be turned into a feature film and released in cinemas led by Carol Kane When a Stranger Calls (1979) which was an enjoyable enough film.

So we have our babysitter, the phone keeps ringing with an ominous voice asking her whether she's checked the children. Surely you know where it leads, nowhere good.

It's handled well enough here but lets be honest there is very little you can do with such a small incomplete tale. Even When a Stranger Calls had to stretch it and essentially just remade this before moving onto original content.

A suitably creepy 20 minutes, this at least has a great premise.

Breakdown + Great idea + Well executed
  • Very little to it

Rants

Reason no.57348973498 not to have children, the cost of babysitting or arguably the stress of trusting someone with your little *Ahem* bundles of joy. I recently went on holiday and had to leave a stranger taking care of my cats, this was bad enough! Then again cats > children, if you disagree you're wrong.
