Warning: Spoilers
Might have been a good book but the movies leaves a lot to be desired. Whilst it is well filmed in a picturest area the story could be told in about 30 minutes, plus the plot hole of the alleged murder. Even in the backwaters of the US in early 60's I could not really see someone on trial based on a piece of wool from a beany. There is also the issue of a family leaving one at a time and all leaving the heroine on her own with a drunken father, just can't see that. This was supposed to be a 'coming of age' masterpiece but really ends up being a dreary unbelievable melodrama. I cannot recommend i.
