Review of Lucas

Lucas (2012)
7/10
Sinister short
22 April 2023
The idea of this short film could have been developed into a full-length production and indeed was some eight years after this one was made. The kernel of the plot was a worrying one - as explained in the IMDB plot summary, Lucas, who is desperate for cash to buy a motorbike, befriends a much older guy who takes photos of him for money in order to fool young girls that he's a teen too. Lucas believes the perv's protestations that there's no danger or physical contact with the girls he's grooming.

In the meantime, Lucas is flashing the cash to impress the local beauties, especially Carmen, who succumbs now that he has money.

It had to end in tears and it did. I'm not going to leave spoilers, but Lucas's world fell apart.

Javier Butler in the title rôle was exemplary and carried the whole film. A definite recommend.
