Set the Standard for the MCU - Fantastic Performances and Effects, Pacing Too Slow at Times
12 May 2023
Iron Man is the movie that launched the MCU and kicked off this new era of superhero films.

The movie is visually stunning, with incredible special effects and action scenes that are both exciting and inventive, and look just as good as the films the MCU creates today. The performances are fantastic, with Robert Downey Jr, as many have said before, Perfectly embodying the charismatic and sarcastic Tony Stark we know from the comics. The supporting cast however is massively underrated, and is in my opinion equally strong, especially Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane.

What sets Iron Man apart from other superhero movies of the time is its focus on character development. We see Tony Stark evolve from a cocky and selfish playboy to a hero who uses his wealth and intelligence to fight for good. The film also expertly explores the themes of responsibility, redemption, and the consequences of war.

However, the movie does have some flaws. I did find the pacing to be a bit slow at times, and some of the supporting characters like Rhodey could have been developed more. Additionally, the final battle between Iron Man and the villain of the movie wasn't as exciting and memorable as I think it could have been.

Overall though, Iron Man is still a highly entertaining and enjoyable film that set the bar for the MCU going forward. While it has some flaws, its strong performances, character development, and impressive special effects make it a must-see for superhero fans. It may not be a perfect movie, but it's definitely worth watching.
