Diary of a Prosecutor (2019–2020)
4/10
Forgettable characters, biased writing
15 May 2023
First off, try and remember any of the characters a month from now. Even 2 weeks from now. I bet you won't. And you won't remember, or care, about the story either.

As for the story, it was clearly written by a bunch of folks born and raised in Seoul, evidenced by the complete biased approach they take to one of the lead characters. Pretty much, she can do no wrong. And the locals and prosecutors who've been with the office for a while can do no right. And they're written like back-country buffoons.

Worse, the writers try to "balance" the lead character's strengths by making her appear fallible or weak time and time again, only to have a "GOTCHA!" reveal during the last 4 minutes of every episode. Where it is magically revealed that she was right all along, and everyone else is an idiot. It happens over and over and over, that you stop paying any attention to the first 95% of each episode. Read a book or play some Sudoku with it playing in the background. Doesn't matter what. Just tune in at the very end and you'll find out what truly happened that week. Lazy writing by the creators, using the same schtick ad nauseum, because they can't write a cohesive episode from start to finish.

And in typical fashion, the last episode of the series takes on such a completely different tone you swear it must have been written by a totally different person. Doesn't matter much in this instance, as it is anti-climactic, unfulfilling, and yawn inducing.

Boring characters. Boring cases. Boring relationships. Truly a waste of some really well-known actors, who can't save this sinking ship.
