Fatal Skies (1990 Video)
Tune in and drop out of the sky

My review was written in September 1990 after watching the movie on AIP video cassette.

A pointless thriller about toxic waste, "Fatal Skies" is notable only for the poor thesping by former acidhead Timothy Leary.

The former Harvard prof plays a baddie dumping toxic waste in the desert. Our young heroes are out skydiving and spot Leary and his henchmen, cueing a fight for survival. The kids are subsequently trained by military expert Tim Burke and then skydive like paratroopers to rescue him from the clutches of Leary & company.

Despite some nice locations and photography th epic lacks a compelling storyline. Debuting filmmaker Thomas C. Dugan, a recent University of Southern California grad, had better find stronger material before jumping off next time.

As a tough lady, Maureen Burns impresses and should be up for further Grace Zabriskie-style character roles. Veronica Carothers is a pretty lead used mainly for decoration.

Tongue-in-cheek ending and silly life histories during the end titles mark this one as frivolous.
