Vicky Kaushal has the ability to even make an average script entertaining
8 June 2023
Zara Hatke Zara Bachke is strictly decent & entertaining but only in moments and not throughout its screenplay. There are some LoL moments but u got to be patient for those punchlines. Good dialogues & their delivery by the main & supporting cast... The film is packaged as a situational comedy family drama. Film starts off decent but mid screenplay it gets so clumsy, I was literally yawning coz you've seen this before and there's nothing interesting for the goings on to hold your attention. It felt like Director Laxman Utekar is trying hard to hold the viewer to take notice of the moments & feel the emotions in some scenes but it doesn't really hold up. The pre-interval bang again seems interesting. It gets better post interval but again you have to be patient.

Film's saving grace: Vicky Kaushal, Vicky Kaushal, Vicky Kaushal.... and Sara Ali Khan (in some part of the screenplay). Vicky comes across as natural, be it comedy or emotional scenes where you will connect where as Sara although good, comes across as performative (means it feels like she's trying to be natural..in some scenes at least).

A semi-decent watch at the theatre. You can watch it once it comes on OTT.
