Series 9 Episode 6

At the Winchester, Dave wants to talk to Arthur about his lack of investment in the club. Arthur claims the recession has limited his money whilst also considering spending on his wife's back garden. Dave is unimpressed. Arthur tells Dave his wedding anniversary is coming up. They continue to argue over money. Jimmy the Jeweller arrives, to Arthur's surprise, and he and Dave quickly leave.

Arthur and his brother, Bert, go and pick up their friend Toby "Jug" Johnson, who is being released from prison after 15 years. They go to Len's Hairdressers so Toby can get a haircut. Later, they arrive at the Winchester. Ray and Dave are there. Toby falls down drunk before giving Dave a hug. Ray is unimpressed with Toby but Arthur tells him Toby took care of Bert, Ray's dad, when he was in prison. Arthur tells Ray they were all in a gang together growing up, the Brentford Back Handers.

Later, a very drunk Toby is taken to Ray's flat to sleep on the sofa. Ray arrives home with his girlfriend Gloria. When she sees Arthur, Bert and Toby in Ray's living room she leaves. Ray wants Toby out but Arthur tells him it's the only option.

The following day a hungover Arthur and Bert return to Ray's flat. He insists Toby is gone immediately. Arthur tells Ray that Toby is staying with him and Ray is his temporary minder to keep him out of trouble.

Arthur is at Len's Hairdressers. Len reminisces about some old Back Hander stories Toby told him, where Arthur got in trouble, and suggests Dave was the reason behind them. Arthur brushes them off, but appears annoyed.

Arthur takes Toby to a cafe for breakfast. He brings up the stories Len told him and presses Toby to confirm Dave was behind the incidents. Toby tells Arthur he can't talk about them as it goes against the code of the Back Handers to "not blow the whistle on a member of the Back Handers." Toby's refusal to talk only deepens Arthur's suspicions about Dave's involvement.

Arthur meets with Bert and confirms his belief Dave had betrayed him years ago. Arthur tells Bert he can't confront Dave because of the code of the Back Handers. Ray and Toby are in the Winchester with Dave. Arthur arrives and ignores Dave, who again mentions Arthur's investment in the club. Arthur becomes annoyed with Dave, much to Dave's confusion. Arthur leaves and sees Jim the Jeweller outside entering the rear of the Winchester. Toby and Ray leave. Arthur sneaks into the club and overhears Dave and Jim the Jeweller talking cryptically about Arthur, saying "Arthur won't know what hit him."

Toby and Ray are at Loftus Road, QPR's football ground. Toby notices Ray's dislike of him and tells him to show him some respect. Ray's attitude towards Toby softens as they talk.

Arthur and Bert meet in the back of Bert's taxi. Arthur assumes Dave is attempting to remove him as a shareholder in the Winchester. Bert can't believe it. Arthur says his friendship with Dave is over. Arthur visits Toby, who is looking at some old photos. Arthur sees one of him and Dave.

Arthur and Ray are shopping in the supermarket. They bump into Dave. Arthur continues to ignore him. Dave attempts to be friendly and asks Arthur what the problem is. Arthur leaves. At their car Ray reminds Arthur that Dave is his best friend. Arthur tells him he has discovered Dave has been betraying their friendship for decades. He then sees Dave meeting Jim the Jeweller and another Back Handers member, Mickey.

Arthur and Ray go to a pub, where a drunk Arthur insists the Back Handers are forcing him out of the Winchester. Ray takes Arthur back to his flat but Arthur disappears. Ray spots the picture of Arthur and Dave, torn in half.

Drunken Arthur goes to the Winchester. He reminds Dave of an old Back Handers rule of tearing of a members shirt button instead of having a fight. Arthur rips buttons off Dave's shirt for the past incidents he holds Dave responsible for. Dave is still confused about Arthur's sudden change in behaviour and he bars him from the Winchester.

The following day Arthur takes Ray to a new club, Arthur's Palace, that he has invested in with Toby. Ray is concerned about where he got the money to invest. Ray quickly summises Arthur is doing it as payback against Dave, which Arthur denies. Ray refuses to get involved as Dave is his friend. Arthur hires Bert to work at the club, but Ray still refuses to help.

Opening night at Arthur's Palace is very busy as they are selling drinks for half price. The Winchester is deserted. Arthur and Bert shop for alcohol at a cash and carry. Arthur runs in to Dave. Again they argue.

The Winchester continues to suffer from lack of customers. Ray goes to see Dave, wanting answers. Ray suspects Toby is behind the fall out between Arthur and Dave. Dave is initially reluctant to talk but confirms Toby isn't to be trusted.

Arthur's Palace is busy again. Toby and Arthur can't get the beer pumps to work so Dermott, another barman shows them the problem, but when he turns them back on the pressure is set too high and beer sprays out of the pumps, all over the bar and customers. Arthur raises concerns about the money they are spending. Toby tells him to keep calm.

At the lock up Ray finally snaps at Arthur for his behaviour and the money he is spending on his new club, insisting both he and Dave will go out of business. Arthur agrees to meet with Dave at a neutral venue for a business meeting.

Dave and Arthur meet at a resturant. Dave tells Arthur to close his club. Arthur suggests they stop all price cuts and promotions and let the customers decide which club will win. They shake hands. As they leave Ray arrives and quickly drives Arthur away. They go to Arthur's Palace to discover Toby has stolen all the money and vanished. Arthur send Ray away.

Later, Dave comes to see Arthur. Dave tells Arthur it was Toby who was behind the incidents from years before that Dave was being blamed for. Arthur tells Dave he was suspicious as he saw Dave sneaking around with old Back Hander members.

Back at the Winchester Arthur is greeted by all the Back Hander members, apart from Toby, and they give Arthur gifts for his wedding anniversary, which they had secretly been planning all along.
