Series 9 Episode 9

At the car lot, Arthur is complaining to Ray about slow business. They go to the Winchester. Vic, the landlord of another pub, the Hat and Feathers, greets them, much to Arthur's annoyance. Dave mentions Vic wants to have a celebration to mark Dave's 25 year anniversary of taking over the Winchester, but Dave is reluctant. Arthur sees the celebration as a chance to sell merchandise.

Arthur and Ray visit Heart Attack, a former criminal and painter and decorator. Arthur offers him a job to redecorate the Winchester.

Arthur and Ray make a deal with Barry, a wine seller, to provide commemorative bottles of wine for the anniversary.

At the Winchester, Heart Attack has plans to redesign. Dave is concerned. Arthur tells him to just apply new paint, and to also knock a wall down in the storage room to create new space. Dave didn't agree to the wall being knocked down but Arthur reassures him it will be fine. Vic arrives as Arthur and Ray are leaving. Heart Attack hides from Vic and asks Dave how long he has been coming to the Winchester.

At the lock up, Barry shows Arthur and Ray the new wine labels. Arthur reveals a souvenir Winchester t-shirt and tie.

At the Winchester, Arthur, Ray, Dave and Vic inspect where Heart Attack removed the wall from the storage room. Ray notices cracks in the wall that run up and across the roof.

Ray goes looking for Heart Attack but his wife says he has disappeared.

At the Winchester, a surveyor is inspecting the damage. The wall that was removed was load bearing and should have been replaced with an RSJ. It's too late to put one in now and the cracks are from the pressure on the foundations. It will cost £30,000 to repair. Knocking down the wall violates the terms of the insurance policy and until it is fixed the Winchester will have to be closed. Dave and Ray blame Arthur, who says he will come up with a plan.

They are forced to drink at the Hat and Feathers. Dave says he has £7,000. Arthur will match it. Plus, the sale of two cars for £5,000 makes £19,000. They will have to raise £11,000. Vic takes Arthur and Dave to a private function room. Ray flirts with a barmaid, then his girlfriend Gloria arrives.

In the function room the Winchester locals blame Arthur for its closure. Gloria suggests a fund raising event to raise the remaining money. They propose a football match against the police and a charity auction after the game. Arthur is forced to buy everyone a drink.

Vic makes a phone call in a private room to D. C. Thorp.

At Ray's flat, Ray and Gloria are hinting for Arthur to leave. He says he won't get in the way.

One of the Winchester locals, George, leaves the Hat and Feathers and is arrested by Thorp.

Ray visits the police station to ask D. C. Field if the police will provide a team for the charity match. Field agrees. Thorp overhears and is rude to Ray, but Morley instantly agrees to the match also.

Arthur visits a talent agent, Monty, to hire a celebrity to appear at the event, but it proves to expensive.

At the Hat and Feathers the group discuss the problems they are having: George being arrested. No celebrity. Limited donations for the auction. Dave says he is looking for a new job.

At the football match Ray and Dave note that four Winchester regulars have been arrested. Ray confronts Field, who says it is nothing to do with him or Morley.

As everyone gets ready for the game Arthur gives a team talk. There is a knock on the door. It is Heart Attack. Arthur, Ray and Dave take him into the toilets for an explanation. Heart Attack gives them a bag full of money that he stole from Vic's pub. He explains that Vic is a police informant and is the reason Heart Attack was sent to prison last time. The money he stole from Vic is the money the police pay him. Heart Attack says there was £10,000 in the safe. They wonder what to do with it with so many police outside. Morley enters. Arthur throws the bag full of money to Heart Attack and tells him to get changed.

Thorp receives a phone call from Vic about his stolen money. Thorp says it's not his problem.

The match is about to start. Morley is the referee. Gloria approaches various people in the crowd to speak to them. Morley and Field argue over a decision and Field is sent off.

Vic goes to Heart Attack's house but his wife won't let him in.

Morley sends more players off. Winchester players go down injured and Arthur and Dave give them alcohol to carry on. At half time Arthur tries to hide the bag of money. He sees Vic arrive, looking for Heart Attack. Arthur instructs Heart Attack to collapse on the pitch to get the match abandoned.

Heart Attack is put in an ambulance as Vic watches. Arthur puts the bag of money in the boot of his car. Arthur drives to the hospital. He returns later to announce Heart Attack will be fine.

As the auction starts Gloria has arranged for people to bid excessively so the Winchester makes over the £10,000 Heart Attack stole. Morley and Field are suspicious.

Vic goes outside. Arthur follows him and informs him he knows he is a police informant. Arthur tells Vic to quit his pub and leave or he will tell everyone what Vic has been doing and Dave will run the Hat and Feathers until the Winchester reopens.
