Adapted from the novel by Martin Caidin from 1964, which that's basically all it is, is three astronauts of Clayton "Stoney" Stone (James Franciscus), "Buzz" Lloyd (Gene Hackman) and finally, commander Jim Pruett (Richard Crenna) being marooned up at space. It is so uneffective and dull in comparison to "Apollo 13" and "The Right Stuff"- this film can easily put anyone to sleep with all the pointless blah, blah, blahing. Gregory Peck also stars as NASA Director of Manned Spaceflight, Charlie Keith, part of the group of saving them. Won an Oscar for "Best Effects, Special Visual Effects" out of three nominations. It beat only a single movie from the Best Effects category called "Krakatoa, East of Java"
