Review of Target

Target (I) (2023)

Careful what you wish for!

Warning: Spoilers
Quirky. Funny. Bonkers. Target is like that fantasy you might have of what a fantasy might be. But probably best to keep it to yourself. Maybe the essence of fantasy is that they're not meant to come true? In this case, Nick screwed everything up by sharing his fantasy and trying to foist it on others. Unlike when it's in his head, when he says it out loud, he can no longer control the outcome. Nick has a movie-perfect life, bland middle age guy gets beautiful young wife and nice house. Clearly a "winner." But then he opens his mouth and gets shot in the ass. (Seriously.) He shares his fantasy and tries really hard to orchestrate it, but that's not how real life works. It's also not how absurdist, dark comedy life works. You feel Nick's giddiness. He explains what he wants and begs for his wishes to come true with his very reluctant wife Laura and she finally agrees. But the harder Nick tries to orchestrate his fantasy, the more bonkers it gets. The viewer gets an awkward front row seat while Nick learns his lesson.
