Give 'em Hell, Indiana Jones!
29 June 2023
I was fortunate enough to view "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" (2023) in avant-première with a free snack, a drink and some fun goodies. This was my first 'Indiana Jones' cinema experience and I have to say, it was a fun adventure.

I enjoyed the take on an older "Indy" who's struggling with some very sorrow things in his life, as well as the simple fact that he has become old. The dynamic between him and his goddaughter "Helena" - played by " Phoebe Waller-Bridge" - was enjoyable, though I sometimes missed a tad bit of chemistry between the two. It definitely builds up though as the movie progresses.

"Mads Mikkelsen" as "Dr. Voller" was a formidable villain (as he usually is). The one thing I didn't enjoy much was how they utilized this villain by using a repetitive story formula: Protagonist discovers something and has to put effort into it, they find special item, villain suddenly shows up and steals it. They did this more than once. 'Mads' can do so much 'better' than that!

The soundtrack was splendid, as one would expect from the legendary "John Williams". Sound design and VFX were top notch as well. I was pleasantly surprised by the de-aging of Indiana Jones during the prologue.

Story-wise I'd say it was definitely an enjoyable rollercoaster ride, with a few clichés and of course something related to "time"; since that is seems to be the trend these days. I believe this will be a fun sequel for returning fans as well as for a new, younger audience. This one is worth the watch on the big screen with the family or some friends. Solid 6.5/10 from me.
